Peekamoose Blue Hole Leave No Trace-'Hot Spot' week, August 14 to 21

The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and its Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainer team are partnering with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), ADK (Adirondack Mountain Club), New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and regional conservation organizations and businesses, including the Catskill Conservation Corps and NYNJ Trail Conference, the Catskill Center, the Catskill Mountainkeeper, Trout Unlimited, the Catskill Mountain Club, the 3500 Club, Mohonk Preserve, the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail Association, Rock and Snow, Upstate Adventure Guides, and the Water Street Market to host community events and educational activities from August 14 to 21, 2017. The scenic and popular Peekamoose Blue Hole has experienced an increase in trash, damage to vegetation and trees, and trail erosion over recent years.

You can participate in the following workshops and service projects:

August 15: Leave No Trace Public Workshop/Backyard Session

Learn how to be an active part of protecting your public lands with the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers. This social, informal event, will have something for everyone.
Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm
Where:  New Paltz, NY: Intersection of Main Street and the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail.

August 16: Leave No Trace Public Workshop/Backyard Session

Learn how to be an active part of protecting your public lands with the Subaru/Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers. This social, informal event, will have something for everyone.
Time: 5:00pm-7:00pm
Where: Ashokan Public Walkway

August 18: Peekamoose Blue Hole Clean-up
Help clean-up the Peekamoose Blue Hole.
Time: 9:00am-12:00pm
Where: Meet at the Peekamoose-Table Trailhead at 9am to carpool to the Blue Hole.

You can let us know that you are coming to these events by registering before hand.

The Hot Spot Program, a key component of the Leave No Trace In Every Park initiative, raises community awareness and brings solutions and prevention measures to popular natural areas around the country facing heavy recreational use and consequently, the misuse of trails, parks and open space areas.
